LoCo List: Loudoun’s Best Wine Slushies

In the movie Frozen, Elsa ice skates and builds snowmen and rides around on a sleigh when her world freezes over. But for your own cooler-than-cool grown up treat look no further than a wine glass. Yup, we worked hard on ranking the area’s top places for wine slushies.

Fresh-Fruit Forward
Head to beautiful Bluemont Vineyards. Outrageous views compete with a peach wine slushie featuring their Summer white wine and farm-grown donut peaches as garnish. Our rankings gave this slushie high marks for its Instagram-ready appearance and light wine flavors. Dangerously easy to drink!
Bluemont Vineyard, 18755 Foggy Bottom Rd, Bluemont

Red, Red Wine
For a wine-forward sipper than acknowledges the summer heat, Quattro Goombas Winery has your slushie. Perfectly balanced, their red wine slushie is lightly sweet and well-balanced. Enjoy it with their pizza bread or solo, as an end-of-the-day treat. Bonus: QG sells their slushie by the glass…and the carafe.

Frosé
Figures that the folks who understand beer + summer = excellent afternoons outdoors would also understand the beauty of a simple, dry rosé frozen to a perfect slush. Head to Vanish Farmwoods Brewery and ask for fro-zaaaay and all day. Served in a big ‘ol beer cup.

Honeycrisp
Dry Mill Vineyard & Winery
makes a sweet-tart of a slushie with their blend of chardonnay and viognier. We call it honeycrisp because it’s the same sweet-but-crisp taste you get from the first bite of a fall apple. Impressively, this one held it’s slushie consistency for the longest…20 minutes after our first sip, glasses were still ice cold.
Dry Mill Vineyard and Winery, 18195 Dry Mill Rd, Leesburg

Exotic
Oh, the sacrifice! To find the county’s most exotic slushie, we rigorously tested peach, berry and citrus varieties only to discover… lychee! For heaven’s sake stop in at Bites Wine & Grilled Cheese Bar and ask them to blend one for you. Their lychee sangria – chardonnay, lychee nectar and plum wine – is mixed with a cup of ice to pair perfectly with a gooey grilled cheese. Go figure. Also available with a floater of dark rum for more of a kick.
105 S King St, Leesburg
