Tamarind Restaurant in Sterling

Explore the cuisine of India…from Sterling. Voted the Best of the Best by Northern Virginia Magazine last year and lauded by big-name reviewers as well as Yelpers, 1947 now-called Tamarind is the real deal. The little-known secret? New owners, Venkatramchandra Aella and Shruthi Reddy, an experienced restaurateur and a food blogger, quietly took over this year and kept the good going with excellent cooking and friendly service. Their biggest change has been to add street food favorites to the buffet.

Regular customers have favorite tables here. There’s a group that drives from Maryland, and another from Arlington, each week. They might come for goat curry, lean and tender, and the saag panner, a creamy curried spinach side, but classic like butter chicken, chicken biryani and samosas inspire a fan following as well. Vegetarian? No issue – there are dozens of amazing meatless options. Spice adverse? Orders can be made mild. Intimidated by the foreign names and ingredients? The buffet is your friend – try it all!

Knowledgeable servers and lovey Shruthi Reddy oversee the dining room, ready to guide newbies through the cuisine – if you can get a table. The large dining room has been known to fill up fast but reservations on weekends, and to-go orders, ensure you won’t have long to wait.

1947 aka Tamarind Restaurant is located at 46300 Potomac Run Plaza #120, Sterling, VA (In the Target/Total Beverage plaza).
