Ford’s Fish Shack

Getting a restaurant high marks in Zagat, Washington Post, and Northern Virginia Magazine is no easy task. It requires immense blood, sweat, and tears that all manifest into a singular drive and passion to be at the top of the game. For Tony and Ana Stafford, their dream of creating a New England style fish restaurant was nearly deferred when they tried opening in Maryland. Shut down due to zoning laws, they moved shop over into Ashburn in 2010, and have since prospered as THE seafood restaurant of Northern Virginia, opening Ford’s in both Lansdowne and South Riding, and have won Northern Virginia Magazine’s Best Seafood award five times in a row!

The best way to get a full, fresh taste of the seas is the raw bar. The raw bar’s selections of oysters (pisser oysters affectionately called “pissah”, in spirit with New England) contains a great and wide selection of oysters from Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. Make sure to try the signature oyster, the Wicked Pissah, made exclusive for Ford’s. The Ford’s Seafood Tower will give you a little taste of the entire sea, a mix of oysters, shrimp, snow crab, and a lobster cocktail.

If raw seafood doesn’t pique your interests, you can’t go wrong with some fantastic selections of cooked seafood entrees. The staple of Ford’s has to be their fish and chips, which was voted a top 40 dish in the Washington Post. This simple dish is done to perfection, with a nice crunch fried exterior and a warm, rich, and beautiful white meat on the inside. The 8oz filet, served with a spicy chorizo mac and cheese, roasted mushrooms, and béarnaise sauce is a decadent taste of New England. The Fried Fishwich is another Ford’s exclusive, which takes a fresh catch of cod and tops it off with savory white American cheese, tartar sauce, and tomato. Rolls are offered as well- the Grand Mainer Roll takes crispy whole belly clams and chilled lobster for an unforgettable flavor combination, and topped off with a remoulade sauce to boot.

Less interested in a shrimp cocktail? Ford’s has a great selection of cocktails to pair with the taste of the sea. The Cape Cod Cooler blends the sweetness of orange juice and pineapple with the more tart cranberry juice and Smirnoff Cranberry Vodka. The Dark and Stormy takes Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and mixes with a Maine Root Ginger Brew, which has a smoky, sweet taste. You can even bring the copper mug it comes in home too!
