Matchbox

Located in the One Loudoun area, Matchbox took a dream of three friends with a passion for food and brought it to life. The interior of Matchbox, made up of a selection of warm red woods, bricking, and luminous red metal, offers a contemporary approach to the classic ‘pizza joint’, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that is both hip and rustic alike.

This rustic quality is displayed in their wood fired pizzas: the ovens, given their high temperature, crisps the dough and renders it thinner than usual hand tossed styles of dough, giving each bite of a slice that wonderful crunch of flavor. The Q Special, comprised of herb roasted chicken, portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, and zesty tomato sauce, has a comforting quality that will make you feel at home, and is a fantastic mix of spices. Try also the Fire and Smoke pizza, which is topped off with fire roasted red peppers, Spanish onions, chipotle pepper tomato sauce, garlic puree, smoked gouda, and fresh basil. The smoky flavors mingle with the fresh produce to bring out each and every inherent flavor. Careful though- it’s not only going to be hot out of the oven but also spicy!

Not into pizza? Not a problem- Matchbox’s wide array of selections will delight your pallet with their variety of ingredients.

Matchbox’s mini burgers are a classic and make for a great pre-dinner bite. The braised short ribs and the blackened tuna, each cooked to perfection, will leave you full and satisfied.

Monday through Friday, between 3 and 6pm, Matchbox hosts a happy hour deal that has to be taken advantage of. Drafts come at a mere $5, wine at $6, and appetizers at discounted prices. The mini meatballs pair great with the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, and the Matchbox Red Blend (a red wine exclusive to Matchbox) pairs nicely with the Do-It-Ourselves Mozzarella, a caprese style dish with tomatoes, basil, a little olive oil, and of course, fresh mozzarella.

Some of Matchbox’s carefully crafted cocktails include the Southern Charmer, a sweet mix of bourbon and peach nectar, made complex with a black pepper-ginger syrup that gives each sip a subtle spice. The cucumber gin and tonic takes the classic drink and elevates it with a taste of cucumber, making it a refreshing choice after a long day’s work. If you are feeling like taking heat, the jalapeño cucumber margarita combines the sweet taste of lime and patron citrone and the heat of a jalapeño infused tequila. The sweetness of the margarita base offsets the heat of the jalapeño taste, allowing a nice amount of heat that is not overpowering and a great taste of the jalapeño.

Matchbox is open 11-10:30 Mondays through Thursdays, 11am-11:30pm on Fridays, 10am-11:30pm Saturdays, and 10am-10:30pm Sundays. Happy hour is weekdays from 3-7. Brunch is on Sundays between 10-3.
