Saturday Sips at Six with Dianne Buckley

Saturday Sips at Six is a truly exciting combination of various aspects of my career, education and pleasant memories of occasions with family and friends. I’ve always believed that details can be divine, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary. In our hectic and ever evolving lives, making moments matter is more important than ever and elevating an intimate gathering with a conversation starting signature cocktail is a great start!

It’s Saturday Sips at Six…and something superstitious is looming in the shadows! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is one of my very favorite ghost stories – especially during the month of October. This almost 200-year-old Early American work of fiction continues to frighten young and old alike! The haunting account of the Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane is a revered gothic tale that has remained immensely popular, especially at Halloween!

Legend has it that the Headless Horseman was a German soldier who lost his head to a cannonball in an area of Dutch settlers in New York, during the Revolutionary War. And, because the Headless Horseman used two weapons on his midnight ride quest to find a head – two dark and complex cocktails it shall be! But please do remember…to mind thy head!

The Headless Horseman’s Revenge combines pumpkin butter, Jägermeister (German Liqueur Digestif made with 56 Herbs and Spices) and Ketel One (Dutch) Vodka to create a cocktail just as pumpkiny as his Jack-O-Lantern and just as sharp as his sword! Of course, for those who prefer a fiery version, the Fiery Jack-O-Lantern made with Goldschlager (Swiss) Cinnamon Schnapps will have you channeling Ichabod Crane and Ye Olde Schnooker and Schnapps Shoppe!

And, as a nod to Ye Olde Schnooker and Schnapps Shoppe and the pubs and taverns near Sleepy Hollow, New York – the perfect bites for these Halloween Sips can be found at none other than Leesburg Public House! Their Nibbles and Snacks are the perfect complement to these dark and complex libations. Bacon Popcorn, Crispy Thai Chili Cauliflower, Cast Iron Baked Brie and Flash Fried Calamari and Banana Peppers will only leave you hungry for more ghost stories.
